Your Business Is Already Listed Online: How to Claim and Fix Your Listing

You never signed up, and yet a customer found your business online last week. That is more common than most owners realize. Directories build their pages from public data: map databases, government records, and data providers. If your business exists, there is a decent chance it is already listed somewhere.

EZZlisting.com works this way too. A large share of its listings started from public map data (OpenStreetMap), so that someone searching your ZIP code can find a business even before the owner has shown up. The data is real, but it can be years old. That is where you come in.

Why an unclaimed listing costs you customers

A listing nobody owns cannot be corrected, and every error in it works against you:

  • A wrong or missing phone number. The customer who wanted to call you calls nobody, or someone else.
  • No hours. A person deciding between two businesses assumes the one without hours is closed.
  • No photos or description. Next to a competitor with a complete profile, yours looks abandoned.
  • No reply to reviews. Customers can say whatever they like and you have no way to answer.

None of this takes a marketing budget to fix. It takes about ten minutes and a free account.

How to check whether you are already listed

Search for your business by name on EZZlisting search, or browse your category in your city. Then read your listing the way a customer would. Is the name spelled the way it appears on your sign? Is the phone number one you still answer? Are the address and hours right?

If you find a listing, you will see a Claim this listing button on it. That button means nobody owns the listing yet.

How to claim your EZZlisting listing

  1. Open your listing and click Claim this listing.
  2. Sign in, or create a free account. No card is needed.
  3. Fill in your details: your name, job title, email, and phone, plus an optional note. Use details a reviewer can match to the business. An email address on your business's own domain, or the phone number shown on the listing, makes the match easy.
  4. Wait for review. A person on the EZZ team checks the request against the listing. When it is approved, you become the owner and can edit everything.

If the listing already has an owner, it cannot be claimed again. When you believe someone else has claimed your business by mistake, contact the team and we will sort it out.

What to fix first

Once the listing is yours, work through it in this order, because the first items matter most to a customer who is about to call or visit:

  1. Name, phone and address. Match your sign and your other listings exactly. Our guide to NAP consistency explains why this small detail matters.
  2. Hours. Choose a weekly schedule, open 24 hours, or hide hours entirely. A schedule also gives your listing a live Open or Closed badge.
  3. Category. Pick one primary category, and up to two additional ones if you genuinely fit them.
  4. Description. Say what you do, where, and for whom, in plain language. See how to write a listing that gets calls.
  5. Services and the ZIP codes you cover. This is what puts you in front of people searching for a specific job in a specific place. Read about service areas and ZIP codes.
  6. Photos. A logo, a banner and a few real pictures of your work. Our post on business photos that bring in customers covers what to shoot.

Claiming is free

A complete listing on EZZlisting costs nothing and stays free: profile, services, hours, photos, service areas and job posts. Paid upgrades such as VIP add reach, and they never unlock the basics. You can compare them on the pricing page whenever you like.

If you cannot find your business at all

Some businesses are too new, or too small, to appear anywhere yet. In that case you can list your business for free in a couple of minutes. The step-by-step listing guide walks through every field.

Either way, the aim is the same: when a customer looks you up, what they find should be accurate, complete, and yours.
